N.E.mation! is a competition where youths express their notions about Singapore’s Total Defence concept through animation. Created by Animagine and our client Nexus, N.E.mation! is in its third run in 2008.

N.E.mation! has its origins in 2005, when Nexus approached Animagine to train a group of C.H.I.J. St. Joseph students to produce five animated shorts on the theme of Total Defence. These shorts were aired island-wide on local television channels and during pre-movie segments in movie theatres in 2006.

The five animated shorts were already rousing widespread interest among the public when two of them were selected by the Prime Minister’s office, and screened as part of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s National Day Rally Speech. This cemented the communicative and entertainment value of the student works, and inspired the creation of N.E.mation! later that year.

Since then, N.E.mation! has seen many meaningful animated works of broadcast quality being created every year by local students, many of whom are first-time animators. The students’ work have received recognition in international arenas, such as the Hiroshima Film Festival, and even prestigious industry-centric events like Annecy. All this bears testament to Animagine’s professional brand of animation training.
